It is not a shock to the people that know me that I am a huge Mindy Kaling fan. She’s the classic underdog. Unappreciated in high school, dealt with social insecurities as a teenager, but then went to an Ivy League school and has pretty much crushed it ever since. Mindy Kaling is the celebrity I would want to be like. She still has a private personal life, she doesn’t fight with other celebrities, and is consistently producing good media. Her writing on The Office is where she first made waves in the Hollywood ocean, but she has not stopped since that. She produces movies, writes books, and has directed and written shows. Most of her TV production is filled with a cast of diverse women. Unlike other successful women celebrities, she is able to make a personal connection with everyone who follows her. She radiates “big sister” energy, which is hard to find from people who have millions of fans. She openly talks about the struggles she has faced with her body image, and the shame she has experienced from stylists and other people in the industry. Although her problems aren’t quite the same, she makes her feelings seem the same as anyone else.
