When you're involved in a certain department in school, you get to know the teachers really well. Whether it be music, science, or athletics, you get to know the teachers on a personal level. I have found that I feel that way about a few teachers. I have been under their instruction for four years, and I am familiar with their teaching style. Most of them are very funny and relatable, but when it is time to work, they do not mess around or waste time. Everyone respects this, and we try to focus. This goes over pretty well, for the most part. But, I have noticed a pattern. When the teachers who are boys yell at us, nothing is really said. It is just accepted that we weren't trying our hardest and we need to focus more. But, that doesn't go the same for girl teachers. There is one teacher who is a girl who students talk about specifically. When she has opinions, or directs us, students call her mean, rude, and scary. But that is simply their internalized sexism. She is doing the exact same thing as the other boy teachers, and if anything yells at us less than they do. It took me awhile to realize this was an actual problem, but I see that everywhere. Not only that, but when they are the only girl in their department, that also isolates them more. It is frustrating, and is such an out dated narrative that keeps getting repeated.
